For the love of our dogs, POSITIVE training is the way to go.
Scientific studies show dogs have a level of sentience comparable to that of a human child. Recent study indicates harsh training methods such as shock collars indeed carry a higher punishment price tag than their proponents believe as dogs can feel emotions similar to human. The study recommend that devices such as shock collars may be banned in the United States and other countries who have not already done so. Same for other controversial methods such as pinch and choke collars.
Dogs who are trained using methods that are too harsh will slow down as they carefully avoid punishment. With positive training methods available to us, we could better motivate our dogs and even have more fun with them.
If you like this philosophy, please practice and support it for the love of our dogs.
